The Christmas Chronicles Filming Locations!

In 2018 Netflix released a new holiday film called The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell. We were very excited about this new Christmas movie – and then we found out that The Christmas Chronicles filming locations were right here in Canada! There is not much we love more than Christmas movies – unless that movie was filmed in Canada!

The Christmas Chronicles follows Teddy and Kate Pierce as they try to celebrate Christmas after the recent passing of their father. Teddy resents the holiday, while younger sister Kate still takes great joy from the spirit of Christmas. After a series of mishaps, the Pierce children must help Santa (Kurt Russell) deliver gifts around the world before it is too late.

The Christmas Chronicles takes place mostly in Lowell, Massachusetts and Chicago, Illinois but most of the movie was filmed in Toronto at Pinewood Studios and throughout the city.

It quickly became a fun game to point out all of The Christmas Chronicle filming locations that were obviously in Canada. Whether it is a car chase, a jail break, or a touching conversation between two characters, Toronto and the GTA look so good in this movie!

One of the first stops in this Christmas adventure flick is Nick’s Place, where Santa and the kids try to get a ride to their destination. This filming location is actually St. James’s Gate, an Irish Pub in Etobicoke.

This is where they run into Lauren Collins from Degrassi: The Next Generation. She plays a grumpy restaurant patron who ends up putting the police on Santa’s trail.

When the Pierce’s and Santa overhear that Reindeer have been spotted on Michigan Avenue in Chicago on the Police scanner, Santa tells Teddy to take “a left on State, right on Erie, left on Michigan.” But anyone who has visited Toronto can see that they are zooming around Yorkville and downtown Toronto.

After a high speed chase in a fancy sports car, and flying around on some reindeer, Teddy and Kate share a touching moment in the yard of The Cathedral Church of St. James on King Street East.

As this unlikely duo does their darndest to save Christmas, they realize they have to hustle if all the children of the world will receive their gifts on time. They work together – with the help of Santa’s elves! – to travel the world in record time to pull it all off. Even Calgary and Vancouver get guest appearances in the toy delivery montage!

The Christmas Chronicles is a fantastic movie for the whole family. It features a great cast with stand out performances by Kurt Russell and Darby Camp. Kurt Russell is such a great Santa, we might have to edit our Best Santas in Pop Culture History list!
